On 16 September 2026, Ms. Chao Nee Steel, Head of Ubon Ratchathani National Museum, together with Mr. Nikorn Wiespen, Secretary of the Chao Kham Pow Foundation, and members of the Ubon Ratchathani Civic Council, together with relevant agencies, expedited the recovery and lifting of more than 10 ficus trees, which toppled within the Ubon Ratchathani National Museum area on the evening of 14 September 2026 after a continuous rainfall and strong wind area.
.
The operation was coordinated by several agencies, including the Office of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, Ubon Ratchathani Province, Forest Resource Management Office, No. 7, Ubon Ratchathani Branch, Ubon Ratchathani Municipality, Ubon Ratchathani Sub-district, Highway 2, as well as officials and related parties. The machines and staff have been pruned, moved, and raised to the original position.
.
Earlier, Sub-Lieutenant Soramongkol Mongkolasiri, Deputy Governor of Ubon Ratchathani Province, came to inspect the condition of the fallen ficus and coordinate the relevant agencies. The ficus should be improved, trimmed, and raised as before to conserve the large trees that are important to the site.
.
The Sai tree inside the Ubon Ratchathani National Museum is more than 100 years old. It is an old tree that has been tied to the place and the people of Ubon Ratchathani for a long time. It also has a continuous story of exploitation and spreading branches to give shade to the people. The rush to rehabilitation is not only to preserve the large tree, but also to preserve the historical value and memory of Ubon Ratchathani city.
.
Ubon Ratchathani National Museum would like to thank all agencies, Ubon Ratchathani staff and all media for supporting the preservation of the Sai tree. This time, the old tree will be “Rom Pho Rom Sai” and will be a shady area for Ubon Ratchathani children to use in the future.
