Don Mod Daeng city submitted works of small ancient type Lent tree to participate in the Ubon Ratchathani Lent candle parade tradition of 2026 by gathering the power of cooperation from local governments, artisans, wisdom, villagers and youth in the area together to create an ancient candle tree that beautifully reflects both the faith in Buddhism and the cultural identity of the community.
This work was created to offer Buddhism, Dharma Worship and Sacrifice during the Lent Festival while continuing the Ubon Ratchathani Candle Festival tradition for the year 2026 by combining creative concepts with traditional candle tree patterns seamlessly.
Key components of a candle.
Candle trunk4,999 small candles are tied together to form a candle trunk.
Diameter 30 centimeters, height 1.50 meters.
The top of the candle is a bushy canopy that clearly reveals the wick.
It is covered with an octagonal canopy, in the style of ancient candles.
Candle Tree BaseThe first base has a diameter of 90 centimeters and a height of 30 centimeters.
A base for supporting a candle, measuring 1 x 1 meter.
The base of the train is 2.50 meters wide, and the total length, including the overhang, is approximately 6 meters.
In front of the processDistinguished by its seven-headed Naga, designed in traditional art style, its majestic face appears awe-inspiring yet compassionate, symbolizing greatness, power, and the protection of Buddhism, according to beliefs deeply rooted in the ancient civilization of northeastern Thailand.
Behind the processionThis film depicts the life of Prince Siddhartha, showing him cutting off his topknot to set out on his quest for liberation on the banks of the Niranjana River. This marked the beginning of his search for the truth of life before his enlightenment.
Next to the scene depicting the life of Buddha, adorned with a five-tiered Bai Sri (traditional Thai offering) made from fresh banana leaves, a sacred offering according to Isaan tradition, is a celebratory arch displaying the royal monograms of His Majesty King Rama X, Her Majesty Queen Suthida, and Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.Surrounded by angels, ceremonial trays, and mythical serpents adorned with banana leaves, palm leaves, jute rope, dried corn husks, and grains, reflecting the exquisite craftsmanship of local wisdom.
