Central Ubon Ratchathani management is preparing to continue the tradition of the Candle Procession through the "Miracle of Candle 2025," the 9th annual Candle Festival. This reinforces Central Ubon's role as a Global Culturtainment Destination and aims to promote Ubon Ratchathani's economy and tourism on the world stage. Partnering with the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Ubon Ratchathani Office, and Ubon Ratchathani University, the event will showcase local beliefs and faith through a sculpted candle depicting "Goddess Lakshmi" or "Padmaladevi" holding a lotus flower.The world's only masterpiece, exquisite, life-size by Khru Cane-Chalida Poolsup and a group of young artists, is on display from 8-17 July 2025 at the Aquarium on the first floor of Central Ubon Shopping Center.
Honoring Ubon city identity, conveying meaning through art
The scented candle sculpture of "Goddess Lakshmi" or "Padmaladevi," standing over 5 meters tall, symbolizes beauty, fortune, and prosperity. Depicted with her hands holding a lotus and showering gold coins, it was created by Kru Aoy – Chalida Poolsap, a legendary candle sculptor from Det Udom, in collaboration with emerging artists. This exquisite work showcases Thai craftsmanship and stands amidst a field of 2,568 lotus flowers, a symbol of Ubon Ratchathani's "Land of Beautiful Lotuses." Under blacklight, the candle's surface glows and emits a fragrant scent, creating the illusion of the goddess herself.

Candle Festival in Ubon Ratchathani Province, one of the major festivals that has been passed down for more than 124 years, attracts many tourists each year. This year, more than 160,000 people are expected to attend the event and generate more than 200 million baht in revenue in the area. It is a powerful arts and culture soft power.
